What to expect

SXSW returns to Austin March 15-21, 2027, and the convergence bet is fully cashed in: film, music, and tech no longer share a calendar so much as a single conversation, and that conversation is AI. Recent editions reorganized the Innovation track almost entirely around generative models, autonomous agents, and the economics of AI infrastructure, and the 2027 slate — 850-plus sessions, hundreds of showcases and screenings, and roughly 450 activating brands — should push that further, from "what AI can do" to "what it's doing to work, storytelling, and trust." Expect the trade-show floor to double as a startup proving ground, the Film & TV festival to test AI-assisted production against a rising premium on human authenticity, and keynotes to stake out the terrain between hype and doom. It matters this year because the tools stopped being demos and started shipping.

ConvCast trains its cameras on the reveals, not the panels: the marquee keynotes, the agent and hardware demos that debut on the floor, and the founder pitches that turn into next year's headlines. We work the Innovation trade show booth by booth — who's shipping, who's vaporware — and cut the signal from the badge-line noise.
